Drugstore Highlighters #1: Wet n Wild megaglo Highlighting Powder Review

Don't forget to check out my instagram (which you can find if you click here) for live video swatches of products mentioned :) Don't forget to leave a like and/ or follow if you want updates on new products!

I got these pretty things at my local Walgreens for $4.99 each (0.19 oz/ 5.4g). They come in a plastic square black compact with a clear top/ lid. The powder itself has been imprinted with a flower design (What kind of flower, I have no clue. Comment if you know what it is!)
The product description can be found on Wet n Wild's website, which I'll link here.
There are only two shades as of right now: 321B Precious Petals and 322B Crown of My Canopy.

The first shade, Precious Petals, is a very beautiful soft, light peach color. The second shade, Crown of My Canopy, is deep peach, almost between a rose gold and a copper color.

The Review:

The highlighter itself is pigmented when picked up using your fingers, but it is a little less so when picked up on a brush. The fallout can look like very fine glitter.
When applied, it does not have any discernible chunks of glitter whatsoever. It is a smooth powder that provides an impressive gleam for a $5 product.
When used lightly the Wet n Wild Highlighting Powder can look natural, or if you like the blinding kind of highlight, it can definitely be layered to achieve that kind of look as well. I just wanted to say that Precious Petals is the shade I use the most because Crown of My Canopy is just the tiniest bit too dark for me (and I am a medium-ish skin tone). Although it is very pretty, when I try to wear that specific shade, it almost looks like I have a bronzer on m cheeks :(

Rating Out of 5 Stars? (1 being very poor, 5 being excellent):

I give it a 3 out of 5
  • it is extremely affordable and readily available at most drugstores; basically anywhere else that sells Wet n Wild makeup
  • it is decently pigmented, gives desired effect (glow, highlight)
  • packaging is simplistic, but cute without being childish (hopefully when I get my hands on another drugstore highlighter, I can explain a little in depth)
  • there are only two shades, although (in my personal opinion) the shades are well thought out or at least quite universally flattering on most skin tones (people in either ends of the skin spectrum may disagree, by that I mean the very pale or very dark skinned)

  1. Thank you so much for this review. I'm still on the fence though. I received the Precious Petals Mega Glow Highlighter in one of my beauty subscription boxes. I can't decide if I should try to use it myself & maybe pull it off Or Should I Gift/Trade it. The reason I can't decide Is that I'm a very fair skinned 57 yr. old & I do use highlighters but I'm worried I'm to old to pull off a hip metallic highlighter. So my question for you is... do you think this is a highlighter for the younger girls, or do you think it's multigenerational and I should go for it?
    Thanks much,
    Trish Bell

    1. No problem, I'd like to thank you for checking out my blog!
I'd like to say that it depends on who you ask, and since you're asking me: I believe that you should to be able to use whatever type of makeup at whichever age you please.
But realistically speaking, I do believe that this highlighter seems to be geared toward the "younger" generation because it's the type of product that is coming out during the super, mega-glowy, "blinding," highlighting trend, which is very glamorous and attention grabbing/ seeking trend (to me). As for older age women, they tend to do more natural makeup as far as I've seen; the highlighting is also kept natural from what I understand as to not exaggerate any fine lines or wrinkles.
With that being said, if you like metallic/shimmer highlighters then I say go for it! You only live once so why not? I see no harm in at least trying it to see how you feel about it, who knows? You might love it, but, if you end up hating it, come back and tell me! I'd like to hear how it works out for you!
